I’m a few hours into The Perfect Pencil, and this might be one of the most emotionally heavy Metroidvanias I’ve played in a while.

In this In Review episode, I break down my early impressions of the gameplay, combat mechanics, exploration, and the psychological themes that hit you before you even take your first step. From the unique pencil healing system to the surreal world filled with symbolism, this game is equal parts challenging, mysterious, and honestly… a little depressing.

It hasn’t been an easy ride — the difficulty, backtracking, and my own “rush everything” playstyle have definitely been tested — but something about this world keeps pulling me back.

Is this a hidden indie gem or just emotional damage with a sword?

Watch my early impressions and let me know if you’ve played The Perfect Pencil — and how many times it made you question your life choices.
