Ah Comic Con, the place where all the best comic book movie news comes from. Yesterday was the first day that Comic Con International was open to the public and already we have a huge story coming out. Deadline reports that Ben Affleck will not only play Batman in Batman v. Superman, but he will then start writing a solo Batman movie. Affleck won’t be writing the solo Batman movie alone, he’ll be teaming up with legendary DC Comics writer Geoff Johns. Johns has a laundry list of DC comics that he’s been a part of including Batman: Earth One, Blackest Night and Justice League of America. Those three books may sound like random bits, but they all feature Batman in different scenarios and with different attitudes. In my opinion the best people to write a comic book movie are the comic writers themselves. Who else knows these characters better  than those who spent a year with them writing a story arc.

The solo Batman movie will be set after Justice League and will deal with what kind of Batman emerges after. It looks like we’re going to be seeing a lot of salt and pepper Bruce Wayne, but…wait….ok let’s play fan speculation. Wouldn’t it be great if they continue with Bruce getting so old that he’s too old to be Batman, so he has to find a replacement. Here comes a one Terry McGinnis into Bruce’s life and the story is that he is to become the next Batman. This may or may not be the Batman Beyond suit, but at least the character will be there. Although they could still with an older Batman for the next couple of years and then reboot it again, which has been their track record with Batman movies.
