Up until recently Ghost in a Shell was sitting pretty with a release date of April 14, 2017. When Fast and Furious 8 was announced with a release date of April 14, 2017, Ghost in a Shell quietly moved their release date up 2 weeks to March 31, 2017.

Ghost in a Shell is a popular Anime that has many different iterations and currently has an ongoing show on Cartoon Network’s Toonami show. The popularity may drive some extra butts to seats when the movie comes out, but there’s always a fear of Fast and Furious 8 taking all the available money when it comes out. I’d say they were scared and have no confidence in their movie, but I also would say that going up against another movie in an extremely popular franchise is pretty risky. Furious 7 has already made over 1 billion dollars worldwide I’m sure the next movie will make quite a lot of money as well.

Ghost in the Shell will be going up against The Divergent Series: Allegiant Part 2 and a Smurfs reboot. I’d say that Ghost in a Shell has a better chance at the box office against those two than Fast and Furious 8.
