Sunday is Fathers Day and I decided to look back at some fathers from current and older video games. Some of these fathers were not the best of people, but they may have produced some great sons or daughters.
Let’s start out with a guy that gets a hard time for making a few bad decisions. Bowser is a father of 7 and even though he tries to take over the Mushroom Kingdom, he still allows his children to own lands and run small armies. Most fathers won’t even buy their kids new computers or cars, but Bowser gives each an opportunity to prove themselves.
He may not be the king, but Donkey Kong does allow his son Diddy to join him in adventures. He also shows Diddy the values of family as he able to include some family that isn’t well known into the games as well.
Pac-Man is a big health fanatic. He also shows his son and his wife that they can eat what they want as long as they keep moving. Who knew Pac-Man was promoting health living way back on his dot matrix made boards.
James McCloud didn’t get much time in games, but he did appear to his son Fox McCloud during some of his missions. James made such an impression of Fox that he grew up to be one of the best Arwing pilots out there.
Mike Haggar is a great father and a great ready to tear of his business suit to go shirtless through the street and beat up thugs in search of his kidnapped daughter. Not caring about the dangers that await him, he needs nothing bug his fists to get back his little girl.
Sam Fisher may not be a name you remember off hand, but like Mike Hagger he’ll do what it takes to get his daughter back. Retirement means nothing to a father when some scum bag has taken his precious daughter.
I’ll give an honorable mention to Dr. Light, who didn’t create Mega Man in the traditional way but still created him. Dr. Light is Mega Man’s father figure and does what he can to help out when he can.
