It looks like the Gotham City Police Department is getting a new face in season 2 of the show Gotham. According to TVLine Michael Chiklis will be joining the Gotham City police force as Captain Nathaniel Barnes and he from how he’s described, he may turn into Jim Gordon‘s hero.
Per Gotham‘s producers, he “Lands on the GCPD like a tornado, ripping out the dead wood of Gotham’s police force. He is a law and order zealot; unafraid of making enemies – on either side of the law. For Gordon (Ben McKenzie), Barnes is a hero and a mentor, someone with whom he can share the burden of heroism. Captain Barnes proves himself to be a strong ally to Gordon… but one day he will make an equally powerful enemy.
Chiklis is not stranger to being a cop or kicking ass. He played Detective Vic Mackey on the popular show The Shield and was of course The Thing in the Fantastic Four movies.
The characters is suppose to be a season 2 regular meaning either he will die, become a villain or leave Gotham at the end of season 2. Jim Gordon is inevitably going to be Commissioner one day in the distant future, but to get there you must make your way up the ranks. If the show follows the ranks of a true police department, he’ll have to go from Detective to Lieutenant, Captain, Commander, Deputy Chief, Assistant Chief, Chief of Police and finally Police Commissioner. Jim will have to be promoted 7 times to get to his destiny and by then he’ll have a bat on the streets helping him out.
