So, last week I made a prediction that Cody Rhodes would become the first World Heavyweight Champion for Monday Night RAW. The would come on the heels of Cody winning the RAW elimination bracket, AJ Styles winning the Smackdown bracket and Cody defeating AJ at Night of Champions. The bracket didn’t pan out like I predicted, but I got the Smackdown winner correct.

It will now be Seth Rollins vs AJ Styles at Night of Champions in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. At that same pay per view, Cody Rhodes will also have a rematch against a very angry Brock Lesnar. Cody Rhodes will end up going after this belt and that may be his Wrestlemania moment next year.. As far as Night of Champions, we have to pick a winner. Usually the weeks leading up will give you some indication of who will end up winning at the pay per view, but since we’re about two weeks out anything could happen.

Both Seth and AJ are fan favorites, but the story line for each is what’s got me stumped. Becky Lynch is on RAW, so they could do a power couple story line with Seth but that seems too much of a safe story. AJ just came back, and since he wrestled against Austin Theory in the bracket maybe he’ll go after that title. For the most part, in past wrestling history, when wrestlers come back from a hiatus they get a decent push towards something. It may be a belt, a signficant victory or a chance to team up with someone and try to turn that small push into something big. Austin Theory isn’t doing anything special with that belt, so why not take it off him and give it to someone who can make it worthy.

Well, it looks like I convinced myself of what’s going to happen. I’m picking Seth Rollins to win the championship with the caveat that he drops it to Cody Rhodes sometime next year.
