It’s been over a week and we’re still getting bits and pieces of footage from shows that were shown at San Diego Comic Con. ABC just released a 10 minute look into the new show The Muppets, airing this Fall. A while ago I wrote about how The Muppets show would be taking a look at the personal lives of each of muppet, while shooting like a documentary much like The Office. According to the information that the footage tells us, this was shown during a panel for fans during Comic Con. There was an apparent outcry for this to be shown to the public, so ABC decided to release it on Youtube. Whether this is true or false, it really doesn’t matter. I was interested in this show, but for the 10 minutes this video played a smile never left my face.
There was talk, and Kermit also mention, that this would be a more adult show. Perfectly timed, Animal states he’ll do tasteful nudity and then says he’s going to go start cross fit, this made ma laugh out loud. This was a simple joke that didn’t really have any type of set up you saw coming, but it was probably one of the funniest situations I could ever picture Kermit and Animal being in. Other famous characters return like Bunsen and Beaker which not only use physical comedy to get the attention of the muppets for Kermit, but also get our attention to let us know that they will be making the jokes each episode. Fozzy is in the middle of an interspecies relationship and has grown up a little since we last saw him on screen, but still makes jokes and has one liners that help close a scene. Gonzo may be called Gary now and looks to be a cross between Milhouse Van Houten from The Simpsons and Jerry Gergich from Parks and Rec. He’s a push over, but there’s a hint of a backbone that tries to come out but when he does he gets pushed back down. Miss Piggy is the backbone of the show, because if she didn’t do it then it wouldn’t happen. I’m sure that she’ll hold that over the cast head as well as how Kermit was dating another pig named Denise. Another famous group that returns is Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem, which Kermit tells us is legally able to be happy all the time now. For those who missed, it, that was a joke about the band always being high. There is an obscure human looking puppet that tries to make his presense known, and I’m sure there will be a mention of where he actually appears in the future, and there are celebrity guests. Much like the original muppet show, this show will have celebrity cameos as well as the always hilarious Statler and Waldorf.
If you’ve taken the time to watch the video and/or read what I’ve written, then you have a vested interest and will be checking this show out. As of right now there is no definite air date, but if the show has a good slot and a decent promotion then this show could go on a few seasons easily.
