I know the argument of the future of R rated comic book movies came and went with Deadpool, but that was also joined by the speculation of DC Comic’s answer with their own R rated movie. The news of an R rated Blu-ray release of Batman v Superman due to violence was met with the feeling of meh and the discussion of an R rated DC comics character continued. The name Lobo was thrown out there, but the version and if he was too obscure questions came into play.
I never read any of Lobo’s solo comics, and the only reason I know of him is because he would appear in the comics of the characters I did read. He never came off as someone I really could read adventures of or even care about an arc if he was the main character. There’s something about his space motorcycle that makes me look at him as a character in the universe, but not someone who really makes any difference.
Unfortunately Warner Bros. doesn’t feel the same way as they have tapped Wonder Women writer Jason Fuchs to pen a Lobo movie. The Wonder Woman movie hasn’t been released yet, so we don’t know how good he’ll be at writing a superhero movie. Reading his IMDB you’ll see he’s written a lot of children’s movies, which will be a complete 180 to what Lobo could be. I’m going to say that this is going to the R rated movie that everyone thing DC’s bringing to the table, but in all honesty why else would they bring him to the screen?
