Last June developer Lizardcube and publisher DotEmu announced a new game that would allowed players to play through a side scrolling adventure, but with the added feature of going real old school with a touch of a button. Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap was recently announced to be coming to the Playstation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC this Spring, along with a new video showing gameplay and some of the characters you would be able to play as.
Switching from HD graphics to old school graphics isn’t a new concept, as it’s been done with Halo: The Master Chief Collection on the Xbox One, and Nintendo’s Mario Maker allows you to use both new and old school graphics but not on the same time. In the case of Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap not only does the graphics change from HD to 8-bit, but the music also follows suit so you truly feel like you’re playing an old school side scroller.
A good curse makes a good game (or so they say)! turned into a half-human, half-lizard monstrosity by the Meka-Dragon, a lonesome adventurer is facing the challenge of a lifetime! In search for a cure, our mutated anti-hero will explore the many traps of Monster Land… and defeat many stuff-throwing, curse-wielding dragons. How many more transformations can one hopeful body survive, as it turns into a Lizard, a Mouse, a Piranha, a Lion, and a Hawk… The six different forms of our shape-shifting hero make up the cast of this non-stop action-adventure platformer!
Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap has a huge world to play in with the six different forms you are able to switch between, each with their own abilities. The forms shown off so far are The Lizard-Man, The Mouse-Man, The Piranha-Man, The Lion-Man and The Hawk-Man. So far video featurette’s for all but The Hawk Man have been shown
